Christmas is almost round the corner. It is usually a season to spend time with family and friends around food and drinks. Those of us who are lucky enough have a at least a week off from school, uni or work spend time with our loved ones. This means that even your English training takes a break, but let us tell you something. You can never take a break from learning English. So, today we’ll show you 3 things that you can do to practise your English during the holidays. In fact, you will see that these 3 steps are part of a single process.
It’s very important to understand the truth to any learning process. A learning process is usually based on input, practise and production. These three steps make a cycle and this is what you need to develop and execute every day. Build up this cycle. Make it a habit and try your best not to break it. Studies show that breaking a routine cycle in any field whether it is, language learning, physical exercise or mental health, sets you back to a 1 to 6 ratio. This means that for every day that goes by without practising a particular routine, you are set back 6 days. No one can deny that these numbers are quite brutal.
So, your one week break at Christmas could mean a backlog of 42 days in your English progression. We need to avoid this, at all cost.
So, what can you do?
You are not an English scholar, so we’re not going to ask you to study grammar rules by heart, nor practise tenses by filling in the blanks. These exercises are hardly of any use when it comes to enjoying the language learning process. So, what can you do to make the most of the holiday season and not lose a bit of pace in your English learning process? It’s simple, just plan. Don’t have the time to plan? Don’t worry, we’ll help you out. No, wait, we’ll do it for you, so you can focus solely on the learning. Here are the three things you can do to improve your English during your holidays.
#1 Join this free course: How to learn English in 10 days?
The first thing we need to tell you is that in order to help you with your ‘motivation’ to learn English, we’ll be taking the first step. We have designed a special course for you to keep improving your English during the holidays. If you feel like joining the FREE English online course: ‘How to learn my English in 10 days’ Just click here and join totally free at no cost. In this course we’ll try to inspire you to continue learning English with a series of emails. This course will mainly set the foundations of what you can do to learn English. We think that emails are a very comfortable tool for our students and not as intrusive as instant messaging or push notifications on your phone, tablet or computer.
You can check more courses here. Just pick any. 🙂
This course consists of 10 lessons which you will receive in your email for 10 days. Each lesson will take no more than 7 minutes to complete and will require two things from you:
- To do it every day. No matter what. Don’t miss doing your lesson (remember the 1:6 ratio) Don’t break your English learning cycle.
- THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: To only move to the next lesson once you have FULLY completed the lesson for that day. Don’t move on until you have completed the 3 or 4 steps we propose. Only 3 or 4.
There are plenty of online courses you can do elsewhere. We can assure you, none will help you as much as the one we have designed. Take a look at it. You’ll love it.
#2 Make a learning journal
A learning journal will help you keep track of the words and phrases you learn during the holiday season. But what is a learning journal? It’s just a simple sheet of paper or notebook in which you can write down words and phrases you like. If you’re more into online notebooks, just open up a new Google document, or you can use the one we’ve designed and start building your list. Whenever you come across a word or phrase you consider important from any of the lessons, just write them in your learning journal. If possible, write an accurate translation in your own language as well. Read your journal when you’re commuting, or during your coffee break, it’ll help you remember all the words you considered relevant. We’ll soon post our solution to a vocabulary journal that you can automatise. Google Home, Alexa and Siri will help you. 🙂
#3 Record yourself
Once you have taken note of the words and phrases you liked from your daily lesson, just record yourself either reading them out loud, or reciting them by heart. And listen to the original audio and then listen to yours. Compare yourself with the original audio. Try your best to sound as close as you can to the original recording. Do this as often as possible.
As you can see, the learning process we have designed for you goes through all three stages INPUT (our course), PRACTISE (your learning journal) and PRODUCTION (recording yourself).
Make sure you have 15 minutes every day to complete all three stages. 15 minutes for 15 days. It sounds almost unreal, but trust us. Try it out!
Do this for the next 14 days. On Day 15 just do the FINAL QUIZ and see how much you have improved. See how much you have learned. We are sure you will be able to achieve more than 75% of correct answers.
- Make English a habit. Listen to our podcast on how you can do this.
- Practise all you can. Take a look at our free and paid courses
- You won’t ever sound natural unless you try to sound like people who speak English.
Set some time to practise English, EVERYDAY.
